Many people use a magnifier to more accurately measure the amount of insulin drawn into a syringe. They may use a hand-held magnifying glass or a free-standing lighted magnifier such as the one shown at the link below. [1] BD Diabetes also makes a magnifying device[2] that fits certain insulin vials and magnifies the readings on the syringe when inserted into the vial. It has been reported that this magnifier does not allow insulin syringes with short needles to reach into the vial.
