Cortisol is one of the Counter-Regulatory hormones responsible for raising blood glucose levels. The glucosteroids shown on this page can also raise bg's when they are prescribed for a pet with diabetes.
Common Glucosteroids[]
Many people are familiar with the use of cortisone for medical conditions such as allergies/asthma, arthritis, and poison ivy. Glucocorticoid hormones (glucosteroids) are given in drug form for their anti-inflammatory properties. Some medications that are glucosteroids are:

Strength and Duration of Steroids[]
Many synthetic glucocorticoids have been created whose potency is greater than that of cortisone/hydrocortisone. [115] The changes in these synthetics can mean longer duration and also less unwanted side effects such as water and sodium retention. [116] The standard to which they are all compared is hydrocortisone which has been given the value of 1.
